Delft University of Technology, HKV Consultants, Wetterskip Fryslan and Consultec execute a flood management training in Mozambique.

The aim of the training is to strengthen the capacity of local water management organisations in managing dams, dykes and the river system efficiently and in a sustainable manner.

The training modules focus on topics such as river hydrology, flood risk and dyke design and management. The two-week training includes group work on case studies for the participants and visits to areas previously affected by floods, such as Chokwe and Xai Xai.

Reduce flood risks
Mozambique and its rapidly growing capital Maputo are regularly affected by severe floods. In order to help to reduce flood risks, the national Dutch education organisation Nuffic has commissioned Delft University of Technology to provide a training on flood management.

The Water Management department of the Delft university of technology consists of two sections: Sanitary Engineering and Water Resources.

The Sanitary Engineering section conducts research on the treatment and transport of drinkwater, wastewater, industrial water and related research topics.
