Candidates are required to have an MSc degree in microbiology, chemistry, (applied) physics, bio-technology, chemical engineering, electronics, mechanical engineering, or related disciplines.

Wetsus is based at the WaterCampus Leeuwarden, the Netherlands.

To stimulate mobility of researchers and to further internationalize the research program, Wetsus received funding for the WaterSEED project from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement.

The best eligible candidates will be awarded a Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellowship.

The Wetsus research program brings together research on water technology from over 16 universities from all over Europe in one physical location in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands.

The research is demand driven through active participation of more than 100 industrial partners in the program.

Key elements in the program are the strong focus on interdisciplinary interaction, entrepreneurial skills and societal relevance.

The PhD students will be working in an innovative, dynamic and future-directed institute on water technology research. You will work in close collaboration with industrial partners.

Excellent research facilities
Wetsus offers excellent research facilities. One floor of its building (on top photo) is completely dedicated to the research. The floor plan consists of almost 500 m2 laboratory, divided in analytical, biological, chemical and synthesis laboratories.

All analyses in the analytical lab are being performed by a team of chemical and research analysts that can support PhD’s in their research.

For most positions the starting date is around February 2017.

Application deadline: 4 November 5 p.m.(Dutch time). 

At the moment about 60 PhD’s work at Wetsus from all over the world. 63 percent of the staff and researchers are from outside the Netherlands. Of the PhD's working at Wetsus 36 percent are female.
