Goals
To set up a joint venture with the Dong Thap water company to provide 30,000 people with drinking water, using a Perfector water treatment plant.
To strengthen the organisation of the Dong Thap water company.
To distribute the results of the project to other water companies in Vietnam.
Details of project plan
A joint venture will be setup by WFI (the applicant) and the Dong Thap water company (the beneficiary). WFI will have a share of 51%. It will lend capital to the joint venture for the purchase of a Perfector-R water treatment plant.
The Perfector will be produced locally, with the exception of a few specific components which will have to come from the Netherlands. The joint venture will use the new plant to produce drinking water, which will be suppplied in bulk to the Dong Thap water company. Workshops will be ultimately organised to distribute the results to other water companies.
In addition to the technical part of the project, the organisation of the water company will also be strengthened. This will take the form of recruiting, selecting and training personnel. With a 51% share in the joint venture WFI will be able to apply Dutch standards to the financial mangement of the project. This will also result in institutional strengthening.
Spin off and market impact
The expected spin-off consists of the distribution of the technology on a non-commercial basis. Secondly, WFI will be able to extend its activities to a new country, as a springboard to further expansion.
By analogy to the experiences gained earlier in Indonesia, WFI wishes to further extend its experience with the Perfector and with public-private cooperation in Vietnam.
