World Expo Center 2010 Shanghai

Siphonic roof drainage and rainwater management

The World Expo Centre was required to get certification for green environmental protection, including the re-use of rainwater.

Wavin provided solutions for rainwater collection, storage and re-use. Wavin QuickStream is an innovative siphonic roof drainage system. It collects rainwater from large roof areas. The rainwater is transported and stored in underground basins, made of Wavin Q-Bic infiltration units. These units store rainwater for future re-use or infiltration back into the ground.

Details of project plan

Shanghai World Exhibition Centre is one of the five permanent buildings of the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition. The Centre is the first building in China which won the gold LEED NC medal as well as the National 3-star Design Certification. There are several environmental friendly technologies used in the construction, such as solar energy, green roof, rainwater re-use, water saving facilities and a high efficiency irrigation system.

The Centre is 400 meters long and 100 meters wide; totally 40.000 square meter roof area. Wavin offered the QuickStream siphonic roof rainwater drainage system and Q-Bic rainwater storage tanks as well. There are 5 Q-Bic tanks surrounding the Centre. One of them is under the parking lot and four under green land. The water quality from the tanks had been tested and proved to be qualified for green land irrigation and road cleaning.
