Disinfecting drinking water in Romania
Using Plation products disinfect drinking water in small local networks
Plation
Plation products have been installed in the water supply system in the village of Colonia (population 350). Plation is a product that protects clean-water storage tanks and pipelines from re-infection. This had led to insight in to the economic and technical viability of Plation products in Romania.

Details of project plan
Plation products have been installed in the water supply system in the village of Colonia (population 350), in the municipality of Tritenii de Jos. Over a period of five months the effect of the products on the bacteriological quality of the water was monitored. The laboratory in Turda analysed the quality of the water every three to four weeks. The Water Laboratory in Haarlem analysed the silver content in the water. Centauri's aim was to show that Plation decreased the silver content, leading to a considerable reduction in bacteria in the water and enabling it to meet the standard for drinking water. In the final phase, other municipalities, the large water supply companies in Romania and the national drinking water association were approached to promote the product and conclude commercial supply contracts.
Impact
The project itself will provide 350 people with reliable drinking water.
Spin off and market impact
The project has the potential to improve drinking water supplies to the entire rural population of Romania. The improved quality of the drinking water will eventually help imrove public health.
For the Netherlands, the project could lead to an increase in exports. If 50% of the 1200 potential plants come to fruition, that will mean exports worth 1.7 million euros in the coming 2 to 4 years.
