First final in Singapore
In February 2012 a final will take place in Singapore. The first Sinapore-edition of the Holland Water Challenge was officially announced during the Singapore Water Week in July by the Dutch ambassador in Singapore Johannes Jansing.
In his announcement Jansing mentioned the special relationships between Singapore and the Netherlands: “Both Singapore and the Netherlands are proven leaders in the quest for sustainable economic growth and maximization of human resources, leveraging the promising global water sector. As we continue to explore these vital subjects, there are innumerable opportunities for bilateral cooperation-- not only between our two countries, but also between businesses, governments, individuals, and knowledge institutions, on an international scale. Bright, enquiring young minds are invited to accept this challenge to help unlock water's vast potential.”

Young minds invited to unlock water's vast potential
The very first Holland Water Challenge took place in China in May 2010 during the Holland Water Week at the World Expo 2011 in Shanghai - where more than 40 Chinese students from 6 universities competed in four consecutive rounds of interviews and presentations, to come-up with the most innovative and commercially attractive proposal for the application of a new water technology.
The second Holland Water Challenge in China 2011 was successfully concluded during a Grand Final in Shanghai on the 31st of May - just ahead of the Aquatech China exhibition.

Inspire young water professionals
The Holland Water programme aims to establish a multi-national platform through which Dutch companies and international universities collaborate to identify and develop innovative solutions to global and local delta and water challenges.
In achieving this, the programme meets several key objectives of the Dutch water sector: to stimulate open innovation, to inspire and attract young talent and to develop sustainable solutions.
Graduate students and young faculty
The format of the Holland Water Challenge is a competition for graduate students and young faculty. On the basis of real-life case studies presented by the Dutch companies, research institutes and universities, the participants are challenged to propose innovative and practical solutions. The proposals and presentations are judged by a committee of international water experts.
