Watermanagement in a nut shell
The MSc-track Water Management covers a broad spectrum of aspects of quantity and quality of water. Each aspect is a specialty in itself. The specialties are, because of their nature, clustered in three fields:
Sanitary engineering
Design, build, and operate installations and infrastructure for (drinking) water supply, sewerage, and wastewater treatment
Hydrology
Description and quantification of water systems in the natural hydrologic cycle and the effect of human on these natural systems
Water resources management
Design, build, and operate water management systems and accompanying management organizations, now and in the future
Structure of the education
Modeling, laboratory work, field work and pilot plant testing play an important role in each specialization. As a consequence, there is an active involvement of Master students in research projects of the department.
The staff of the work fields is grouped in two sections: Sanitary Engineering and Water Resources. The people are dedicated to their subject. It is not only their job, they love their profession.
The students of Water Management are also dedicated to the MSc track. Organized by the “Dispuut Water Management” they contribute to the education and to the cohesion and atmosphere by organizing excursions, lectures and festivities.
The department of Water Management has many contacts with organizations in countries within and without Europe. This offers possibilities to broad ones view by for example internships and projects abroad in countries like Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Peru, Colombia, Argentine, Germany, France and the USA.
Sustainable development is becoming more and more important for designing, operating and management of Civil Engineering Objects. Students who like to focus on sustainability within their master can follow the master profile Technology in Sustainable development.
Many people took the challenge to choose Water Management. In the period 1994 to 2005 averagely 37 students per year finished their studies on the subject of Water Management. They reached very good positions in society!
