The World Water Academy is a sustainable training concept with an international character for a practical level. The main goal of the World Water Academy is to be leading in terms of capacity building and in exchanging experiences for the global water sector. Its goal is to improve sanitation and the quality of drinking water in developing countries.
The World Water Academy was founded by Wateropleidingen (SWO), the leading Dutch training Institute for water management, to create and provide professional training for locals on a practical level. By doing so, the World Water Academy can make an essential contribution to the assurance of environmental sustainability (UN Millennium development goal nr. 7).
Capacity building is considered an important factor to improve the level of the water specialists and thus improve water supply and sanitation to a sustainable level.
The World Water Academy concept consists of the following characteristics:
Training for practical level
The courses are mainly aimed at the field workers, the employees that work on a practical and executive level in the water sector. Water World Academy trains them to be a (genuine/real) water professional. By building sustainable capacity and exchanging experiences on water topics, the employees are taught how to exploit, reinforce and maintain their knowledge on water issues.
Training for professionals and by professionals
The participants are trained by professionals from the water sector itself. About 250 lecturers and trainers are available on a freelance basis for all types of courses, be it technical, financial, managerial or communicative. The lecturers and trainers are professionals that work at different levels and in different disciplines e.g. for drinking water supply companies, water boards, water catchment agencies, engineering consultancies, industries or governmental organizations.
Inspiring, practical and customized courses
The programmes are developed/created in cooperation with the water sector. The trainers are professionals, working in the sector themselves. Therefore, they are more than aware/conscious what knowledge and know how is required. Examples or practical experiences from their own working environment appear to be very inspiring. The courses are of high quality and are updated frequently. Part of our concept is a standard procedure to assess courses and trainers. The academy can offer a standard programme or a programme customized to the requirements of your company and your employees.
Non-profit, non-loss
Being a training institute owned by the Dutch water sector, the primary goal has always been to teach practical and up-to-date knowledge on all water related issues. Working on a non-profit, non-loss basis guarantees a sustainable organization. All costs have to be paid by the participants or their company, but with a limited staff we keep costs moderate. The freelance trainers and authors receive a fair fee. Our courses offer excellent value for money, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
