Stockholm World Water Week 2019

25 August 2019

World Water Week is annually hosted and organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and takes place each year in Stockholm, Sweden. This year's theme is ‘Water for society – including all’.

Date: 25 – 30 August 2019
Location: Stockholm, Sweden
Organizer: Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI)

Hosted and organised by SIWI, the Stockholm World Water Week is the annual focal point for the world's water issues. In 2019, World Water Week will address the theme ‘Water for society – including all’.

In 2018, over 3,600 individuals and around 380 convening organisations from 135 countries participated in the event.

Universal access
The former UN millennium development goal for water was about reducing by half the proportion of people without access to drinking water by 2015. The current UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) for water is much more ambitious and aims at universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all by 2030.

This year’s theme of the Stockholm world water week links to this goal, as well as to the theme of World Water Day 2019: 'Leaving no one behind'.

New venue
During its 28 years of existence, World Water Week has grown from a two-day seminar, attended by some 100 people during the Stockholm Water Festival, to become the pre-emptive event for the international water community. In coming years, it aims to include even more sectors in the water conversation.

The next edition of SWWW will take place in Tele2 Arena, the new venue with the intention of creating a more inclusive World Water Week village. The organisers do not only want to make it possible for more people to attend, the new venue also allows for more networking opportunities.
