The 4th edition of the European Climate Change Adaptation conference (ECCA) will take place in Lisabon, Portugal, from 29 – 31 May.
The ECCA conference provides a platform for a dialogue between diverse actors from universities, research institutes, governmental agencies and businesses on the multiple aspects of climate change adaptation.
It builds on past conferences that took place in Hamburg (2013), Copenhagen (2015) and Glasgow (2017). The title of the upcoming edition is 'Working together to prepare for change'.
Adapting to climate change requires a coordinated and synergetic approach from a diverse range of actors across sectors, as well as questioning assumptions about the drivers of risk, vulnerability and environmental change.
Well-designed climate adaptation actions can have wider benefits for health, economy and biodiversity, and can even have synergies with climate mitigation.
The ECCA conference explores these opportunities and helps to move them from theory to practice.
The six themes of this year’s conference are:
● data, methods and approaches in climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction
● co-production of knowledge, solutions and services
● communication, data-sharing and decision support
● institutions, governance, citizens and social justice
● global climate challenges
● climate risk management and resilience
