Argentina is the second largest country in South America and is in the top three of the largest economies in the region. The country has large freshwater reserves and agriculture is a major source of income for the country, mainly because of the export of soya and corn. Yearly the region of Buenos Aires is confronted with floods, which have huge impact on the population and land use.

The cooperation between Argentina and the Netherlands on water management has intensified in the past few years. The cooperation is mainly focused on water governance, integrated water resources management, water quality, and waste water treatment. During a state visit of president Macri to the Netherlands in March 2017, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Argentina and the Netherlands to work together on these topics.
