Brazil faces different challenges when is comes to water mangement. Substantial parts of the country are drought and in some parts water is scarce. Less than 30% of all domestic wastewater is treated. Agriculture struggles with pollution of wastewater and defective sewage. In addition, only 40% of the population has access to clean drinking water.

In the past few years several Dutch trade missions to Brazil were organised including for the water sector. Several Dutch-based firms are involved in projects on water management in Brazil, for example dredging work.
