Poland is booming. The country is no longer a piece of old-fashioned Eastern Europe, but has its eyes firmly focused on the West. Poland is the only country in Europe that during the global crisis of recent years had no recession. It is also the largest net recipient of EU money. The Netherlands is, thanks to a centuries-old band, one of the top 10 investors in Poland. As many as 1,500 Dutch companies are now active in Poland.

Water safety is an important topic in Poland. The Dutch 'Room for the river' concept might provide promising solutions to help address some of these issues. Due to the economic development, more and more people and businesses live in flood-prone areas therefore making floods in Poland increasingly damaging. In 2010, severe floods took many lives, and the damage caused ran into billions. The Netherlands was then able to quickly offer help.

Nowadays a growing group of Dutch companies are actively involved in Polish water projects including Arcadis, Grontmij, Kuijper Compagnons, LG Sound, Deltares, RHC, Euro Landscape, Pentair.
