South Sudan

In South Sudan there is substantial rainfall. However, the amount of rainfall strongly varies during the year. Therefore, floods as well as periods of drought occur in the country. Water management is one of the main priorities of South Sudan since the independence of the country. The private sector is not developed in the country, because all activities of the private sector were focused on the North of Sudan.

South Sudan is one of the countries the Netherlands is collaborating with, within the framework of the Dutch "Water OS Programme". This programme is focused on the development of the private sector in South Sudan and stimulating collaboration with the Dutch sector. Meanwhile, a bileteral collaboration programme is developed. A tender was part of this programme. The focus of the programme is not only on water and sanitation, but also on water for food, agriculture and capacity building.
