An international consortium led by Mott MacDonald and including VNG International and SNV Netherlands Development Organization has been appointed by the Dutch government to implement the Water for Lakes Program, designed to contribute to national security and reduce the dependency on food aid, in the Lakes State, South Sudan.

The consortium will provide technical assistance to the government of South Sudan for the development of an integrated water management system.
It includes improvement of physical infrastructure and strengthening of institutions responsible for the water governance and infrastructure operation. This will seek to improve access to clean drinking water for 800,000 people, while increasing water resources for livestock, agriculture and fisheries.

At the same time, a 31.8 million euro portfolio for investment projects will be formulated to stimulate economic development in the region and improve living conditions in a sustainable way.

By ensuring provision of safe water, improved sanitation, and unlocking the potential for production in agriculture, livestock and fisheries, the program can bring stability and well-being to the local communities in the Lake State.
