Urban Water Strategy for Gdansk

For a climate resilient, strong and attractive city

Posted on 1 July 2015

It is the ambition of the Polish City of Gdansk to bring back the historical relation with its waters and to create a city that is resilient to the future. From this perspective the initiative for an Urban Water Strategy was taken by the City and KuiperCompagnons.

The strategy provides for a set of recommendations to increase the climate resilience and flood protection, and simultaneously strengthen the urban quality and socio-economic strength of Gdansk by taking advantage of the presence of water in the city.

The strategy is the result of a Polish-Dutch cooperation between City of Gdansk, a group of local Polish experts, KuiperCompagnons and Arcadis. The project is supported by the Dutch Governmental program ‘Partners for Water’.
