dws-pwn-ceramic-demo-trail-pub-770pxPWN Technologies, in partnership with Wabag and Metawater, will demonstrate the effectiveness of ceramic membranes to Singapore water authority PUB as a pretreatment prior reverse osmosis to turn sea water into fresh water.

The effectiveness will be demonstrated in a trial held at the r&d facility of PUB in Tuas, Singapore for a period of four months.

The trial will involve a pilot plant with a capacity of 200 cubic meter per day utilising just a single ceramic membrane of 25 square meter filtration area.

dws-pwn-ceramic-demo-trail-pub-cckww-350pxIn 2011 PWN Technologies ran tests in a Ceramac demo plant at PUB's Choa Chu Kang waterworks where drinking water is produced from blended surface water from three different reservoirs.

More robust filter
The robustness of ceramic membranes for seawater desalination has its advantages in that they do not require extensive upstream pretreatment, resulting in a more compact and operationally reliable plant.

This has been demonstrated in the Middle East, and further pilot testing in Singapore would demonstrate the effectiveness of this technology for the region.

This trial is conducted in collaboration with PUB on all technical aspects.

Optimal flux and effluent quality
Two other objectives of the trial are to determine:

  • the initial optimal flux for stable conditions, and show stable and reliable operation, with minimal down-time and consistent treated water quality;
  • the quality of the filtered water on parameter such as SID, turbidity, metals, organics, and to determine the suitability for downstream RO treatment.
