Stockholm Water Week: Dutch activities on the exhibition floor
The heart of the World Water Week Stockholm is the exhibition hall where the global water expertise is showcased. Here the Dutch non-governmental organizations are well presented.

Junior Water Prize
Students from 30 countries that participate in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize had to present their entry to the international jury. Here Dutch student Lotte Hoes explains a new way to design an apartment building with a green roof for the purpose of water storage. Hoes and her fellow student Kimberley Schoenmaker developed a method to make mass calculation, types of soil and options.
Dutch Water Alliance
Visitors at the stand of the Dutch Water Alliance react surprised to see an genuine Dutch bike. The bike is the trade mark of the six Dutch NGO’s that work together with sustainability as a leading principle. The alliance adopted five specific areas to address in their water projects: financial, institutional, environmental, technical and social (FIETS). The initials form the Dutch word for bike. AKVO
Mark Westra explains the AKVO-website that is a crucial element in the work of this Dutch-based foundation. The website follows the progress of over 1.000 water projects all over the world so donors can actually follow the development of the projects they financed. A new successful activity of AKVO is to monitor all water facilities in developing countries with mobile phones. AKVO-Flow is a software tool to collect data on the local situation and transfer it to an open access website where the data is visualized in a map giving an accurate and actual view of the WASH facilities in a certain area.
Tulips from Amsterdam
Annemieke van Zuijlen of the Netherlands Water Partnership hands out tulips to make visitors aware of the 2nd International Water Week Amsterdam to take place from 4 till 8 November. The main events will be the IWW Conference on ‘Integrated water solutions for a green economy’ and the Aquatech Amsterdam trade fair. The first edition of IWW Amsterdam attracted more than 25.000 visitors.
