Fugro awarded major contract for seabed investigation in waters around Hong Kong airport
Airport Authority Hong Kong has awarded geotechnical services company Fugro a contract to carry out a major geotechnical and environmental ground investigation around the nearshores of Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok.
The contract, which is worth approximately 8.8 million euro, will provide essential engineering and environmental information and will run until November 2014.

Fleet of five vessels
Fugro will carry out the works using a fleet of up to five vessels. Having performed several projects in the waters around Chek Lap Kok in recent years, Fugro is very familiar with the challenges caused by the restrictions of working adjacent to one of the world’s busiest airports.
Additional third runway
The Airport Authority is moving ahead with planning work for the construction of a third runway sheduled for 2023. The construction associated with this additional runway will reclaim 650 hectares of the sea, the second-largest ever reclamation project in Hong Kong
Hong Kong's Executive Council has approved 'in principle' the construction of this third runway in March 2012.
