Water and Food Security is the theme of World Water Day 2012 on Thursday 22 March.

Each day, huge amounts of water are sued to produce enough food to fulfil our daily requirements – often much more than we would expect. This demands more efficient use of water. After all, although water can be reused, it is not an inexhaustible resource. Access to water is especially under pressure in developing countries, where food supplies are adversely affected too.

The national celebration the World Water Day in the Netherlands takes place in Wageningen.
