Global handwashing day 2020
October 15 is Global Handwashing Day, a global advocacy day to increase awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.
Hand hygiene for all
Global Handwashing Day is an opportunity to design, test and replicate creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at critical times
The COVID-19 pandemic provides a stark reminder that one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of a virus is also one of the simplest: hand hygiene, especially through handwashing with soap. To beat the virus today and ensure better health outcomes beyond the pandemic, handwashing with soap must be a priority now and in the future. This year’s theme, Hand Hygiene for All, calls for all of society to achieve universal hand hygiene.
To beat the virus today and ensure good health overall, this year’s Global Handwashing Day emphasizes the need to take immediate action on hand hygiene across all settings to response and control the COVID-19 pandemic. It also serves as a reminder of the need to build on the current momentum to ensure hand hygiene is becomes a mainstay in public health interventions.
No matter your role, you can celebrate Global Handwashing Day!
The day was founded by the Global Handwashing Partnership in 2008 to help communities, advocates, and leaders spread the word about handwashing with soap. Global Handwashing Day not only seeks to raise awareness on the importance of handwashing with soap, but provides a platform for sustained action at a global, regional, and national level.
