WWF7: K-Water and Deltares sign MoU on joint projects on integrated water management
Korean water company K-Water and Dutch research institute Deltares signed a memorandum of understanding at World Water Business Forum on 14 April.
The World Water Business Forum is part of the 7th World Water Forum in Daegu, Korea, and co-organised by the Netherlands Water Partnership.
The MoU was signed by vice-president Mr. Byoung-Seub Choi (right) of K-Water and director Mr. Maarten Smits (left) of Deltares.
Joint r&d
The agreement sets out how K-Water and Deltares will develop knowledge together in international projects. The main focus is on knowledge related to water availability and quality, flood protection and asset management.
A few years ago, K-Water and Deltares worked together on the Four Major Rivers Restoration project in Korea. The project made the organisations realise that they lack good hydraulic modelling of rivers, both morphology as well as water quality.
Both parties have already inventoried the joint r&d options and agreed to set up a detailed agenda.
In the MoU it has also be agreed to cooperate more closely in joint regional Asian projects.

Worldwide partnerships
During the opening session the declaration of the World Water Business Partnership was launched. K-Water has initiated partnerships all over the world to enable water businesses to work together. The network is to provide opportunities to share water technologies and develop water-related projects.
At the 7th World Water Forum this initative was celebrated and highlighted by the publication of the special declaration.
K-Water announced that it has the intension to organise a Water Business Forum during the Amsterdam International Water Week in November this year.

Since its establishment in 1967, K-water has been implementing national water resources management policies regarding multi-purpose dams, water supply dams and regional water supply systems.
