Blue battery wins Dutch Stockholm junior water prize 2015
Eline Jagtenberg, Mei Nelissen and Lotte van der Velde from `t Hooghe Landt College in Amersfoort are the proud winners of the Dutch Stockholm junior water prize 2015.
The winners of the Bright water heads (Knappe waterhoofden) were announced at the Wetsus water technology centre on 12 June.
Eline, Mei and Lotte will represent the Netherlands at the Stockholm Junior water prize in August.
Last year's award was handed out by Swedish crown-princess Victoria to Canadian student Hayley Todesco for her work on slow sand filters.
Energy from water
Their project, Blue Battery has impressed the jury. Blue Battery generates electrical power using anion- and cation selective membranes and a bipolar membrane with reverse electro dialysis. It stores the energy in salinity gradients, using freshwater and table salt.
Final in Stockholm
The team will go to Stockholm as the Dutch representatives for the Stockholm junior water prize 2015.
This competition will take place during the World water week in Stockholm from 23 - 28 August.
The junior water price is annually handed out by crown-princess Victoria.

About Dutch Bright water heads award
Bright water heads is the Dutch national contest qualifying students with innovative ideas for the international Stockholm Junior water prize.
The Stockholm Junior water prize is presented each year to students in the age of 15 to 20 for outstanding water-related projects that focus on topics of environmental, scientific, social or technological importance.
Teams from 29 countries competed for the international honor, which was awarded by an international jury of water professionals and scientists.
The international Stockholm Junior water prize winner receives a 5,000 USD scholarship and a blue crystal sculpture. The prize is administered by the Stockholm international water institute.
