Dutch delegation to talk to British government about recent flood problems

A delegation from the Dutch government agency Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch Union of Regional Water Authorities and research institute Deltares will be in the UK on Sunday, 9 February, for exploratory discussions with the UK government on the recent floodings.

These discussions response to an invitation from the British government to look at ways of deploying Dutch expertise to combat the floods in England.

Talk about possible solutions
The team of experts was appointed by Roeland Allewijn, the Rijkswaterstaat director of Flood Risk Management and Water Use. Allewijn: "We have extensive experience in the Netherlands with managing flood risks. We are happy to talk to our British colleagues about whether we can help, and how. The discussions will be about the background to the current problems and any possible solutions in the long and short terms."

The delegation emphasises that the meeting concerns initial talks and it will be up to the British government to decide about the shape any future collaboration will take.
