North Manama Causeway

The North Manama Causeway is part of the Ministry of Works' strategic plan to improve the existing road network. The development of new road corridors supports the rapidly expanding economy of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The new phase of the North Manama Causeway project includes 21 kilometers of new roads, 11 junctions and a new signature bridge, the fourth Muharraq Crossing.

A large section of the network will be located in what is now water. Land reclamation is therefore  part of the project.

Land reclamation

As part of this project, Boskalis will reclaim an area of approximately 130 hectares with an estimated volume of six million cubic meters of sand using two medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredgers.
Furthermore the construction includes rock revetment work for edge protection.

The activities are due to commence in the third quarter of 2019 and are expected to be completed in the third quarter 2020.
