AIWW Summit 2018: Join in on next steps in leadership on global water issues
The organisers of the Amsterdam International Water Week Conference want to take new major steps forward in global leadership on Sustainable Development Goals, resilient cities and circular economy. Everybody who wants to contribute is very welcome at the first edition of the AIWW Summit in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on 15 November 2018.
The summit bridges the last edition of the AIWW Conference in 2017 and the next edition that will take place in November next year.
The roundtables at the AIWW Conference focus on faster implementation of intregated solutions to overcome water problems.
Acceleration of implementation
The AIWW Summit focuses on the implementation of integrated solutions by cities, industries, utilities and finance towards a sustainable water environment.
The last editions of the Amsterdam International Water Week Conference were built mostly upon the pillars resilient cities and circular economy.
In fact, the 2017-edition saw three Leadership Forums for key representatives from municipalities, utilities and industry to define roadmaps of change.
The AIWW Conference organisers want to pick up the themes of those Leadership Forums together with policy makers, city leaders, finance leaders, industry leaders, water supply leaders, engineers, young professionals and other people interested to be involved.
Overarching aim is to make real impact and accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, and SDG #6 on water in particular.
New projects and potential agreements
Part of this ambition are the Amsterdam Agreements: partnerships to achieve practical progress on real water challenges and projects. Nine of them were launched at the 2017- edition and are now in the phase of implementation.
At the AIWW Summit on 15 November feedback will be given on the first results and on the road blocks that have been encountered. Furthermore, proposals for new projects and potential agreements will be discussed.
Speakers line-up
Amongst the high-level inspirational speakers are Dutch Minister of Infrastructure & Water Management Ms Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, Mayor of the City of Rotterdam Mr Ahmed Aboutaleb and Ms Veronica Manfredi, director Quality of Life, DG Environment of the EU Commission.
The programme consists of a mix of keynotes, in-depth sessions and action-orientated roundtables.
Highlights
Since its first edition in 2011, the Amsterdam International Water Week Conference has extensively addressed water related topics such as resilient cities, circular economy, cutting-edge water technology, water governance, sanitation and blended finance.
The Amsterdam International Water Week offers a wide range of activities. Two highlights of this biannual event are the international AIWW Conference and the AquaTech trade fair.
This year the preparatory AIWW Summit 2018 is added to the activities, providing a bridge between the Amsterdam International Water Week and other international events, such as the Singapore International Water Week, Stockholm World Water Week, COP24 and the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition.
