IHC Merwede challenged visitors to simulate dredging scenarios at conference in Mumbai, India
Dutch shipbuilder IHC Merwede and its Training Institute for Dredging (TID) organised the India Dredging Experience, allowing visitors of the 4th Annual Conference on Dredging in Mumbai, India to operate a cutter dredger simulator.
The annual conference took place on 5 - 6 September and the Dredging Experience was welcomed with great enthusiasm by visitors. The number of participants exceeded expectations, reports IHC Merwede.

Advanced dredger simulator
Conference visitors had the opportunity to try out a range of dredging scenarios on TID’s advanced cutter dredger simulator. This allowed them to develop a clear understanding of what the simulator training has to offer crews on dredging vessels and their respective employers.
They were invited to compete against each other during a 20-minute challenge on the simulator for the ‘Operator of the Day’ accolade, which will be awarded to the participant who makes the most optimal use of one full stroke of the spud carrier.
A number of TID’s experienced trainers guided the visitors through a diverse programme of activities, including basic dredging operations, slurry transport, dredger instrumentation and operations.
Conference presentations by IHC Merwede
The 4th Annual Conference on Dredging in India was attended by several of IHC Merwede's staff members, including Area sales manager Kees Derks who presented a session titled, 'Latest development in dredging technology', and TID’s Bob Rijnders who discussed the subject of 'Dredge training and the benefits of using dredge simulators'.
