Jakarta administration to cooperate with Rotterdam in reclamation project
The Jakarta provincial administration will partner with the city of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in the island reclamation project along the northern coast of Jakarta.
Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama made this remarks after receiving mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, in Jakarta on 24 August.
Aboutaleb led a Dutch maritime business delegation that visited Jakarta to inform the administration on how Rotterdam realized its 1000 ha port expansion project Maasvlakte 2 by reclaiming land.

"In the island reclamation project, we plan to involve Rotterdam. There are some islands that they can work on," the governor said.
According to Basuki, there are three islands in the reclamation project that is planned to be executed in cooperation with Rotterdam city, namely O island, P island and Q island.
"The three islands are planned to be used as logistics centers, not only for Jakarta, but also for other provinces such as Banten, West Java and Central Java," said Basuki.
Port development concept
In addition, he wanted to follow the concept of port development as that applied in Rotterdam. "We also want to have a large port such as in Rotterdam," Basuki said.
He was interested in the concept of port development applied by Rotterdam that might also be used to develop the Jakarta port of Tanjung Priok that is currently under construction.
"The development of Tanjung Priok port and the reclamation of the islands will help the development of our marine ambition," Basuki said.
He referred to the ambitious plan of Indonesian president Joko Widodo to make Indonesia a global maritime axis. The country plans to construct 24 new ports within the next five years to reduce transport delays and waiting times at ports and raise the country’s global competitiveness.
