LG Sound successfully demonstrated its new MPC-Buoy to monitor algae in Skrzyneckie Male Lake Poznan, Poland
Dutch company LG Sound completed the Clearwater project with its new MPC-Buoy in the Skrzyneckie Male lake (10.7 ha) in Poznan, Poland.
The MPC-Buoy of LG Sound provided a complete overview of the water quality by collecting the following parameters every 10 minutes: Chlorophyll (green algae), Phycocyanin (blue-green algae), pH, TSS, Dissolved Oxygen and the temperature.
Ultrasonic transmitters, especially designed for the Clearwater project, were used to emit different frequencies, waveforms, amplitudes and burst times of specific algaes. The project showed that the ultrasound treatment needs to be adjusted according to the type of algae and other parameters in the water, to perform at its highest efficiency.
Prevent growth of blue-green algae
High algae levels in surface water often result in a deterioration of the water quality and bad odor. In order to provide an environmentally friendly solution to prevent the growth of blue-green algae, the MPC-Buoy activates ultrasound transmitters to control algae and cyanobacteria.
Ultrasound pressure disturbs the buoyancy of the cyanobacteria, causing them to sink to the bottom and die.
Differences between lakes
The Clearwater project also showed a difference in the algae levels between the lake with the installed MPC-buoys and several similar other lakes in the surrounding.
For example, the level of cyanobacterial (blue-green algae) cells in the Kórnickie Lake, which is located in the same area as Skrzyneckie Male Lake, was nine times higher compared to the lake in which the MPC-Buoys were installed.
Local inhabitants noticed visual improvement in water quality and stated that the water in the lake has become cleaner and no algae scum occurred after the deployment of the two MPC-Buoys.
The Clearwater PMPC project, was coordinated by LG Sound and funded by Research for SME’s within the EU 7th Framework Programme.
About LG Sound
Since 1999, LG Sound has been a leading international manufacturer of algae control systems. The innovative systems provide an environmental friendly solution to effectively control algae, cyanobacteria and biofilm in lakes, reservoirs, treatment plants and more. Over the last decade, more than 10.000 LG Sonic products have been successfully installed in 52 different countries.
LG Sound installed the MPC-Buoy in lakes in Poland, the UK, the USA, Canada and Ireland. The MPC-Buoy is proven to be effective in lakes, ponds and dams.
