dws-kwr-watershare-logo-iwa-congress2-770pxThe collaboration knowledge platform Watershare has become a principal sponsor of the IWA World Water Congress that will be held in Lisabon, Portugal from 21 - 26 September 2014.

Watershare is an initiative of KWR Watercycle Research Institute with the main purpose to share, offer and receive knowledge in the field of drinking water and wastewater. Knowledge institutes that are a member of the platform have access to a large number of software products, developed to resolve practical problems faced by the end-users of these knowledge institutes.

Launched at previous edition of IWA congress
Watershare was launched in the autumn of 2012 at the previous edition of IWA World Water Congress in the South Korean city of Busan. The first institutes to join Watershare were the Belgian research organisation Vito, the Swedish Svenskt Vatten, the German KompetenzZentrum Wasser Berlin and Naturalis from the Netherlands.

New members
Watershare is currently engaged in talks with organisations in Greece, Portugal, Hungary, England, Singapore and South Africa. "The Watershare concept has a strong appeal", says Wim van Vierssen, CEO of KWR Watercycle Research Institute. "We offer a differentiated fees model, so that the knowledge partners can gradually evolve into full membership."

Van Viersen is on the lookout both within and outside Europe for partners who would like to become Watershare members.

At the moment, the Watershare Suite comprises 16 tools, including many software products from founding partner KWR. The first tool to be contributed by Vito is currently being prepared.

High quality standards for tools
"We have to be able to guarantee the quality of the tools we offer", says Van Vierssen. "Only those knowledge products that have been studied in international scientific literature and have a practical application reference are included. Drinking water is an extremely sensitive product, one which has to meet the highest quality standards. Our expert colleagues at Watershare member institutes can always be confident that they’re offered a selection of the very best, validated products available on the market."

Van Vierssen expects that Watershare will offer around 30 top-quality tools within five years and the Watershare Suite will serve and connect the very fragmented European water market.
