Witteveen + Bos to lead consortium for reconstruction port of Vukovar, Croatia
On 23 May 2013 a consortium of Dutch consultancy firm Witteveen+Bos (lead) and the Croatian institute for civil engineering IGH was granted the assignment of delivering Technical Assistance for the reconstruction of the port of Vukovar, situated on the right bank of the Danube river.
The project is part of the modernisation and the capacity increase of the ports along the so-called Corridor VII, a pan-European waterway.
Within the framework of the assignment all necessary design- and tender documents will be prepared for the reconstruction of the port of Vukovar.
The services also comprise all field surveys and assistance for obtaining environmental, location and building permits. Based on these documents, the project will be put forward for European co-financing.
On 1 July 2013 Croatia will become a member of the EU. The present assignment however is covered by the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance and
the related Transport Operational Programme. The end beneficiary of the project is the Port Authority Vukovar.
On 19 June the kick-off meeting took place and within 19 months the assignment is to be completed so that tenders for the construction works can be floated.
Improvement infrastructures along Danube and Sava rivers
The assignment can be regarded as a logical follow-up of ongoing and completed projects by Witteveen+Bos in co-operation with various partners since 2003 on improvement of the transport infrastructure in Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia, specifically concerning inland waterways, like the Danube and the Sava, and the ports along these rivers. Witteveen+Bos has a project office in Zagreb since 2006.
