Legionella-free water at Expo 2020 Dubai
On 1 October the Expo 2020 Dubai will open its gates. On the expo site 191 countries and organisations will show their best ideas, innovations and technologies. One of the participating companies is Holland Water which installed 23 of its HW Bifipro systems on the expo site to ensure legionella-free water.
Deactivation of Legionella bacteria
Holland Water is an official sponsor of the Netherlands Pavilion and is one of the Dutch SMEs that offers water treatment technology to the world. In case of Holland Water this concerns the patented HW Bifipro system that eliminates biofilms in water pipes by dosing copper and silver ions.
The copper and silver ions can penetrate the cell wall of bacteria and therefore also deactivate legionella bacteria and other microorganisms in slow-running and still water.
Together with distribution partner Culligan, Holland Water installed Bifipro systems in various buildings and metro stations on the expo site.
More effective control
Leo de Zeeuw, water entrepreneur and founder of Holland Water, is proud of his participation in the world exhibition: ‘As a company, we stand for more effective, sustainable and cheaper water management in general and legionella control in particular. Expo 2020 Dubai is therefore the perfect platform for Holland Water to position itself as a problem-solver with a focus on ground-breaking water technologies.’
According to De Zeeuw the system really makes a difference for hospitals, healthcare facilities, hotels and other buildings that prioritize water quality.
Optimized dosing
Global sales director Peter van der Linde highlights the knowledge his company developed over the years on the application of this ionization technology. ‘The system doses an exact amount of silver and copper ions to kill the bacteria and break down the biofilm’.
Van der Linden mentions some additional advantages: ‘This water has no residual taste or odor, unlike water that has been treated with chlorine. Another advantage is that with our innovation we greatly reduce the use of plastic water bottles. Certainly in places like the UAE, there is much to be gained in this respect. In general, tap water in UAE doesn't have such a good and reliable image yet'. 'That is also why this innovation is so interesting for the Expo‘, Van der Linden adds.
Water, energy and food nexus
During Expo 2020 Dubai, the Netherlands will show solutions at the intersection of water, energy and food. The Netherlands Pavilion has been designed as a biotope that embodies the cross-overs of sustainable use of water and energy for food production.
The Business Lounge of the Dutch pavilion houses the Holland Water Bar. This bar can be recognized by its gigantic copper and silver bars, a reference to the electrodes used in the HW Bifipro system.
