Nijhuis Industries will design, deliver and operate a brand new waste water treatment plant at the Hafan y Môr holiday park in Wales, UK. The hearth of the plant is a Nijhuis Bioctor Moving Bed Biological Reactor (MBBR). Nijhuis acts as a single point of supply for Bourne Leisure throughout the complete project.

Summer peak

The Hafan y Môr Holiday Park is positioned on the edge of Snowdonia National Park in Wales and is a flagship facility for Bourne Leisure, one of the UK’s largest providers of holidays and holiday-home ownership.

Hafan y Môr has a population equivalent of 5,200 persons during summer peak periods and all wastewater discharges will be transferred to the new treatment plant.

The treatment system itself comprises of a screen, biological treatment, and solid-liquid separation.

Two tanks

Solid particles and grit will be removed by a screening system prior to balance tank system. Flows will then be pumped to the Nijhuis Bioctor MBBR that will comprise of two tanks operated in sequence. 

Any biomass carried over from the MBBR tanks will be removed by a dissolved air flotation system in the form of a sludge. 

The new treatment facility has been designed to preserve the natural beauty of the surrounding ecosystem.

Range of services

The range of services undertaken by Nijhuis Industries includes treatment equipment manufacturing, civil installation, landscaping, flow monitoring, sample analysis and managing environmental approvals. 

Nijhuis is also in charge of the commissioning and ongoing operation and maintenance.
