IFAT India, the leading trade fair of water, sewage, solid waste and recycling in India, will be held from 14 to 16 October at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, India. Alongside the exhibition, a conference programme brings together industry experts to discuss current environmental issues and trends. The event attracts policymakers, utility managers, technology providers, consultants, and researchers.

The India–Netherlands International Centre of Excellence on Water

India is developing into a promising market for environmental technologies. The Indian Government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Mission) is one of the key drivers for the growth of the water sector in India. The strong policy focus on this country-wide campaign has led to active contributions from companies, institutions and civil society.

A central element of the Strategic Water Partnership between India and the Netherlands is the establishment of the India–Netherlands International Centre of Excellence on Water (CoE). The Centre is being developed in cooperation with the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi). It is designed as a long-term platform for joint projects, training, and knowledge exchange, supported by a ten-year vision financed by the NMCG. The Netherlands contributes expertise through government programmes and cooperation within the Dutch Diamond. The official opening by the Minister of Infrastructure & Water Management and his Indian counterpart will take place on 29 October at the physical centre on the IIT Delhi campus, featuring an exhibition of Dutch water solutions in water management and water technology.

Mission programme

To strengthen the presence of Dutch water expertise in the Indian market, the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) is working together with the Consulate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Mumbai and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) on the organisation of a Netherlands Pavilion and a mission programme at IFAT India. The programme will include stage sessions, onsite matchmaking, and a networking reception. It is designed to support Dutch participants in gaining insight into local and regional needs, position Dutch knowledge and expertise on the Indian market, and establish concrete connections with relevant stakeholders.

Following IFAT India, the programme continues with a trip to Delhi coordinated by RVO and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. There, participants will visit the future India–Netherlands International Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Water. Although the official opening is scheduled for a later date, the visit provides an initial opportunity for Dutch participants to connect with local stakeholders, exchange knowledge, and offer input for the Centre’s further development.
