Romanias economy and social environment is rapidly growing. In 2007 the country became a member of the European Union. This means the country has to follow EU guideliness and requirements, such as the framework Water en Flood directive. To meet these EU-legislation Romania faces some challenges on water management. Improvement on water management can be realized on issues to provide clean drinking water, to reduce the flooding risk and to prevent coastal erosion.

The Romanian Netherlands Water Partnership (RNWP) unites the Romania and Dutch water sector and coordinates initiatives and activities in the country. Besides demonstrations on the Dutch expertise and technologies it provides a network in the Dutch water sector and knowledge can be exchanged.
